Description
Built specifically for the 1993 to 2002 Camaro, Firebird, and Trans Am, this low coolant sensor bypass solves a specific problem created when a factory radiator leaves the car. Many fourth-generation F-body radiators, across both the LT1 cars through 1997 and the LS1 cars from 1998 to 2002, came from GM with a low coolant level sensor mounted in a dedicated port on the radiator end tank. The factory PCM expects to see that sensor in the circuit. Remove the original radiator in favor of an aluminum performance unit that has no sensor port, and the dash responds with a persistent low coolant warning that no amount of topping off will clear.
This bypass eliminates the problem at its source. The unit plugs into the factory low coolant sensor connector in place of the original radiator-mounted sensor, completing the circuit the PCM is monitoring so the warning never triggers. Which means the replacement radiator needs no sensor port at all: no adapter fittings, no drilling a tank, and no living with a warning light on the dash. The sensor body is molded plastic, measures 1.75 inches tall by 0.63 inches wide by 0.75 inches thick, and terminates in a sensor block-off plug end that mates directly to the existing factory harness connector. Installation is a matter of unplugging the original sensor lead and plugging this unit in; the factory wiring is left completely intact and the change reverses in seconds if the car ever returns to stock.
In practice, this is the finishing detail for any 1993 to 2002 F-body cooling system upgrade. The radiator handles the heat; this bypass keeps the instrument cluster honest. Sold individually, one per vehicle.
